The Tabernas Desert, home to the only desert climate on the European continent, is bounded by three big mountain ranges: Filabres, Alhamilla and Sierra Nevada.
The rainfall, less than 250mm per year but torrential, and an average temperature close to 18C (over 40C in summer), have formed this particular landscape plenty of a Mediterranean type sand covered gullies: the badlands.
This semiarid landscape has been widely used as a set for well known films, such as A Fistful of Dollars, The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, Conan the Barbarian or Game of Thrones.
The Tabernas Desert route includes some impressive single tracks over the badlands and sandy basins known as Ramblas.
