PROTECTED AREAS

THE GREAT DIVERSITY OF THE TERRITORY IS REFLECTED IN A NETWORK OF NATURAL SPACES THAT NEED TO BE PROTECTED AND CONSERVED

From the dense pine forests of the Sierra de Huétor and the Sierra de Baza to the Tabernas Desert, from the peaks of Sierra Nevada to the Mediterranean coast of Cabo de Gata-Níjar…

Continuing with our objective of publicizing the benefits of this territory, in our new section dedicated to Natural Spaces we have had the opportunity to talk with the Conservation Directors of the different Natural Parks, asking them about the particularities of these spaces, as well as the effect that cycling tourism can have on them.

I believe that cyclists are responsible people who love nature, so my recommendation is to enjoy the tours through our Natural Park and also visit the surrounding towns and enjoy their heritage and cuisine.
Milagros Menéndez, Director of the Sierra de Huétor Natural Park

We have many places of enormous beauty, both on land and in the sea and underwater… but personally I would not miss the beaches of Genoveses and Mónsul, the views from the Mirador de la Amatista or the Rodalquilar Valley.
Salvador Parra, Director of the Cabo de Gata-Níjar Natural Park

This new section also includes recommended routes to get to know the most special places in each area, and a series of recommendations to be respectful of the environment and other users.

Cycling can access lesser-known areas of Protected Areas, distributing the benefits of ecotourism and active tourism more widely and equitably. This increased accessibility generates wealth and opportunities for the surrounding communities.
Francisco de Asís Muñoz, Director of the Sierra Nevada National Park

Be considerate of hikers in shared sections, and stay on designated roads, trails, and cycling tracks.
Almudena Cano, Director of the Sierra de Baza Natural Park
